EcoSync – Intelligent AC Regulation System for Hotels

Project Overview
EcoSync is an intelligent, IoT-based air conditioning regulation system designed to optimize energy usage in hotel environments without compromising guest comfort. Built around keycard-linked presence detection and infrared (IR) control of AC units, EcoSync dynamically adjusts air conditioning based on real-time room occupancy.
This scalable solution targets the inefficiencies in luxury hotels where guests often leave the AC running unnecessarily. Instead of fully turning off the system (which causes discomfort upon re-entry), EcoSync intelligently moderates temperature to maintain a balance between comfort and sustainability.
Key Features:
- Developed a presence-detection module using keycard integration to identify room occupancy
- Engineered an IR-based programmable AC controller compatible with a wide range of existing AC systems

Awards & Recognition
EcoSync was awarded 1st Runner-Up at the IESL Techno-Spark Startup Challenge 2024, a prestigious competition for sustainable product innovation, organized by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL).
It also secured 1st Runner-Up at the INSEE Circularity Challenge 2025, an innovation contest focused on circular economy solutions, organized by INSEE Cement Sri Lanka.
